Summer on the deck

Sometimes the things we see every day can be an inspiration for sketching. I was relaxing on my deck one afternoon, admiring the lines of this chair, and realized it would make an interesting sketch. Like a musician practices to perfect his skill, so an artist draws to perfect his art, to keep the hand limber and the mind alert to relationships between shapes and the values of light and dark.
